Description: Facebook presents newest algorithm to stop spam and harmful information in paid ads. This algorithm determines the usefulness of the data and sets a high-low displaying priority for ads.

Spam in user’s feeds was the one of the biggest problems of Facebook for years. Paid advertising is the only real way to promote some goods and services surely, without content quality sorting. Everyone gets the chance to be seen by a mass of interested people, and this resulted in an overabundance of proposals, where it became difficult to move forward. Qualitatively and non-standard information was less and less, a lot of template useless ads appeared in unfortunate users’ feeds.

The need to limit the hit in news feeds of users of low-quality offers and info posts (including harmful ones) has become vital for the Facebook’s image.

And recently, Facebook announced the development of an update, which is designed to eradicate such processes on the platform. The main reason of Facebook’s motivation is to spread poor-quality or harmful content in advertising messages. The solution will be an analysis of advertising posts and changes in the level of “priority” of a particular advertising message. So the users’ feed should become more informative.

Advertising message model “bait – sensationalism – misinformation” will leave the radar users. The seller will get a stable place under the sun only if he promotes really valuable content. So “to cut money” in dishonest ways will not work anymore. And we will all be able to read normal content day by day.

And, of course, the algorithm will be able to scan ads to identify malicious links more accurately to block them immediately. The risk of getting into an uncomfortable situation for the user is reduced.

Addition to the topic

Spam problem is also so actual or other popular social networks.

For example, Instagram faced the problem of spam bots, which automatically create links with real users for commercial purposes. This is a paid service from hackers, used by some brands to promote themselves. Instagram assures that it constantly improves the sorting algorithm, but the problem even at this point is far from solving result.

On Facebook, the main source of spam is conditional provocation. Someone unknown for you likes it; you open his page just for interest and see the target info. Perhaps just spam advertising, and maybe pornographic and any other specific content. The situation became a serious problem by 2016, when the real wave of attacks on real accounts began. The main feature of the spam trend was the “likes” of the old user tweets, from 2013 and earlier. And, as the observational user says, often the source of spam is not newly created accounts, but hacked real users pages that have not been used for a long time. How to hack someones facebook account? According to the administration, they have already curbed this thing. But, obviously, that is not 100% yet.

At the moment there is no automatic tool to maintain the “clean” state of a large social network, so everyone must rely only on yourselves. Do not forget to report spam more often, wherever you are!
